Responsibilities
  1. Provide consultant level management of inpatients admitted under a General Medical Unit within Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) and
    Geriatric Medicine at Palmerston Regional Hospital (PRH).
  2. General Medicine service will include management of General Medical Unit at Royal Darwin Hospital in 2-week blocks. This requires
    a broad depth of knowledge and significant experience in complex patient management and discharge planning.
  3. Geriatric medicine will include a mix of service in the; Acute Care of The Elderly (ACE) ward at PRH, which is run as an acute geriatrics
    service model, the Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) ward at PRH, and also the Interim Care Ward at PRH.
  4. Provide care and advice on the management of patients with Geriatric and General Medicine conditions to colleagues both within
    and outside the specialty, and to those colleagues in geographically isolated centres in the Northern Territory. This may also involve
    consultation services in specialised areas of Geriatric medicine such as orthogeriatrics and falls.
  5. Provide, with other members of the Division of Medicine, routine and emergency after hours care and an after-hours consultancy
    service to colleagues and junior medical staff on a roster basis.
  6. Supervision, teaching and support of junior medical officers (Advanced Trainee, Basic Physician Trainee, Resident Medical Officer,
    Interns, medical students).
  7. Participate in continuous medical education including undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, professional development, peer
    review, research, teaching, quality improvement activities and clinical audits as appropriate.
  8. Attendance at regular Departmental Meetings (GACM/Geriatrics Consultant Meeting, Mortality and Morbidity)
  9. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in
    order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
  10. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
