We are looking for a Staff Test Engineer to join our Energy Storage and Power Systems (ESPS) Test team. You will lead the development of test assets to validate our modules, packs, and HV/LV power distribution units for our Gen 6 eVTOL aircraft.
Due to the nature of the work required for this position, this is an onsite opportunity. You will be required to work from our Fremont office.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or related engineering discipline
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of batteries, battery management systems and/or power electronics
  • Experience working with high voltage battery systems
  • Experience interpreting PCB Schematics, Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and component datasheets
  • Proficiency with LabVIEW and/or Python
  • Experience integrating off-the-shelf test equipment (power supplies, electronic loads, battery cyclers, oscilloscope, logic analyzer etc.) and DAQs into test setups
  • Experience working with I2C, SPI, isoSPI and/or RS-485 protocols
  • Experience with data acquisition devices (NI, Keysight, LabJack, Dewesoft) and transducers
  • Hands-on experience designing and assembling tests assets or stations from scratch for entirely new hardware
  • Strong interpersonal, communication skills and a team player
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup environment
  • This role will require travel to our Mountain View office and external test facilities

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and commissioning of test assets to characterize the electrical and thermal performance of the Gen 6 aircraft’s modules, packs, and HV/LV power distribution systems
  • Work closely with the Systems Engineering team to define test asset specifications, translate requirements on Polarion to executable test plans, and develop test cases
  • Collaborate with the BMS embedded SW team to understand firmware updates, validate new features, and report/troubleshoot bugs
  • Scope, evaluate, and select high power battery test equipment, including cyclers, thermal chambers, chillers, data acquisition devices, etc.
  • Develop and maintain Python and/or LabVIEW test scripts to automate test execution and data upload pipelines
  • Conduct post-processing of battery electrical and thermal data from cycling and performance tests
  • Generate clear and concise test reports and present findings to the leadership team and relevant stakeholders
  • Create detailed test procedures to train and handoff routing test execution to technicians
  • Partner with the facilities team to ensure the optimal maintenance and calibration of test lab equipment and provide detailed equipment specifications for future space and power upgrades
  • Ensure all testing activities adhere to safety protocols and industry standards for high-voltage battery systems
