We are seeking to appoint a Staff Veterinarian - Small Animal Internship (Surgery) to join a team of outstanding world-class clinical specialist colleagues at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Sydney.
Reporting to the Unit Head, the main purpose of the Staff Veterinarian - Small Animal Internship (Surgery ) is to provide junior level support to the Small Animal Surgery team-residents and specialists, and support teaching to DVM students. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to learn from our Small Animal Surgery specialists as well as a range of other disciplines across the hospital. They will assist other veterinarians in providing some supervision of clinical year veterinary students rotating through the service.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • provide high quality veterinary clinical services to small animals
  • provide an effective clinical service for hopsitalised cases
  • ensure quality and continuity of service in the Small Animal Surgery unit
  • assist with the provision of excellent small animal veterinary services under the supervision of experienced specialists and other senior colleagues
  • assist with the training of DVM students including clinical rounds, tutorials and practical classes where required
  • maintain the reputation for academic excellence.

  • a degree in veterinary science that is registrable with the NSW Veterinary Practitioners Board
  • strong clinical skills in small animal surgery
  • an ability to work under supervision of the Small Animlal Surgery unit and to work closely with veterinarians in all referral services of the UVTHS in a collegiate manner
  • enthusiasm and demonstrated ability for teaching
  • a willingness to accept role in teaching DVM veterinary students
  • the desire to provide best-practice principals in provision of veterinary services
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate with colleagues, clients and undergraduate veterinarians
  • Beneficial but not compulsory, completion of a rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship.
