The Australian Government is implementing a Scams Prevention Framework (SPF) and intends for AFCA to be the External Dispute Resolution scheme operator for scam complaints under the framework. AFCA has established a program to expand and operationalise this new jurisdiction related to banks, telecommunication service providers and digital platform providers.
Job Description
Are you a strategic and delivery focused Communications & Stakeholder Engagement professional ready for the opportunity to support the Scams Prevention Framework? This is a crucial leadership role in ensuring the successful delivery of the Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Workstream for the scams project team. You will be responsible for managing both internal and external stakeholder engagement and communication, brand development and all media activities for the scams program within AFCA.
Reporting into the Project Director, this is a delivery-focused leadership role with a strong emphasis on planning, relationship management and cross-functional collaboration. You’ll coordinate deliverables, track progress, manage risks, and ensure strong alignment between program goals and communications execution. This is initially a 12-month contract opportunity.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leadership: Lead the Communications and Stakeholder workstream, ensuring timely and on-budget delivery.
  • Trusted Advisor: Manage senior and executive stakeholders across AFCA and external partners
  • Project Management: Develop and implement detailed workstream plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and risk mitigation
  • Work prioritisation and management: Coordinate with project managers and other workstream leads to ensure cohesive program execution
  • Reporting: Monitor progress and performance, reporting regularly to the Steering Committee and other stakeholders
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks, implementing corrective actions where needed
  • Communications: Ensure quality assurance of all communications materials and outputs
  • Cross- functional Collaboration: Facilitate collaboration across internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Continuous Improvement: Support continuous improvement initiatives within the workstream and broader program
  • Perform other duties as reasonably required

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experienced leader: Proven experience in leading and managing project workstreams within complex programs
  • Project management: Strong project management skills, including planning, resource management, and risk mitigation
  • Relationship manager: Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with executives, senior leaders, and business units, skilled in navigating complex organizational dynamics and aligning multiple stakeholder needs.
  • Master Communicator: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders
  • Collaborator: Experience coordinating cross-functional teams and facilitating collaboration
  • Time management: Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes under tight deadlines
  • Educational background: Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
