Duties and Responsibilities * Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a strong emphasis on fast, friendly customer service. * Assist customers with product suggestions and special orders. * Answer and respond to incoming calls professionally; resolve customer complaints and escalate to the Store Director when needed. * Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques through telephone, intercom announcements and direct customer interaction. * Maintain thorough knowledge of all department roles; oversee and assist with preparation, brewing and serving of all food and beverage items. * Implement proper product preparation and packaging techniques; operate equipment including kitchen utensils, ovens, coffee grinders, coffee machines, espresso machines, blenders, printers and pallet jacks. * Maintain hot and cold food items according to company standards. * Brew coffee and tea; operate cash registers to total sales, accept payments and make correct change. * Apply proper coffee bar procedures and maintain accurate bar layout and workflow. * Maintain case cleanliness, product freshness and strong visual appeal. * Ensure all Starbucks equipment and areas meet cleanliness, sanitation and safety standards. * Ensure temperature compliance during preparation, storage and display of all products. * Schedule, supervise, train and assign duties to department employees to ensure adequate coverage and service levels. * Train employees on store policies, sales techniques and record‑keeping procedures. * Identify high‑potential employees and support their development for advancement. * Plan daily operations and monitor production processes in accordance with company procedures and profitability goals. * Prepare sales and inventory reports; complete physical inventory every 4 weeks. * Control inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality and freshness; stock and rotate product; maintain and organize coolers. * Understand and enforce opening and closing procedures. * Build displays, rotate product and remove outdated or spoiled items. * Maintain working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook. * Ensure proper code‑dating compliance for all products in the department. * Monitor employee productivity and performance. * Initiate personnel actions including interviews, transfers, promotions and disciplinary actions. * Maintain department standards when handling fast‑moving and quick‑sale items. * Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays. * Perform receiving duties: break down loads, verify orders, inspect product quality, report shortages, stock and rotate product. * Follow temperature and storage guidelines and proper packaging procedures. * Process administrative paperwork and maintain accurate department records. * Complete, maintain and monitor required logs including Production Logs, Par Charts, Sales and Labor documents and daily log sheets. * Control shrink and manage departmental costs. * Attend and participate in sales meetings; communicate goals, performance and opportunities to employees. * Ensure proper product temperatures, accurate pricing and correct signage; comply with labeling laws, federal/state regulations and company code‑dating policies. * Comply with all workplace safety rules and regulations. * Ensure safety, cleanliness and sanitation of the sales floor, work areas, freezer, cooler, equipment and display areas. * Implement emergency procedures for equipment or software malfunctions. * Perform all duties safely, accurately and with honesty and integrity. * Perform other necessary and assigned duties. Skills and Physical Requirements * Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain professionalism with customers and coworkers. * Solid understanding of company practices and Starbucks Department policies and procedures. * Ability to reach, lift and maneuver items up to ~40 lbs; frequent bending, stooping and reaching required. * Ability to push/pull fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks; repetitive arm movements required. * Manual dexterity and strong hand‑eye coordination required. * Ability to stand for long periods of time. * Mental alertness required for safe and accurate task completion. * Basic math skills and knowledge of weights/measures. * Knowledge of product standards, perishability, handling, sanitation, labeling and department procedures. * Ability to operate kitchen utensils, coffee machines, espresso machines, grinders, blenders, ovens, electronic ordering devices, registers, printers and pallet jacks. * Ability to use cleaning agents and equipment. * Ability to operate computer software and electronic ordering devices. * Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays; varied schedule; strong attendance required. * Potential exposure to hazards associated with equipment and work tools. Work Environment * Work performed in a temperature‑controlled environment. * Frequent exposure to refrigerated conditions (~35°F). * Frequent exposure to freezer conditions (down to -20°F). * Occasional travel may be required, including overnight travel.
