POSITION SUMMARY

As a Stargazing Guide, you will play a central role in delivering exceptional astronomy experiences to guests visiting our Gibbston location. You will be responsible for leading stargazing tours in a safe, engaging, and informative manner — offering expert commentary on the night sky and enhancing the overall customer experience through your knowledge and enthusiasm. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role combining scientific knowledge, cultural sensitivity, and excellent service — ideal for someone with a passion for astronomy and guiding.
Fluency in Mandarin is essential as the role involves regular communication with Mandarin speaking customers and tour groups.
We guarantee a minimum of 30 hours per week. You must be available to work weekends and public holidays due to the nature of our operation. We are located at 1081 Cardrona Valley road; there is no public transport access.
The pay range for this role is between $25 - $30 per hour depending on experience.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• 2 years of relevant work experience in customer service
• Fluency in Mandarin

• Deliver engaging, informative, and safe stargazing tours, tailored to guests’ interests and levels of knowledge in both English and Mandarin.
• Proactively interact with customers, establishing rapport and responding accurately to questions about astronomy and the local environment.
• Ensure every guest receives a warm welcome and a genuine farewell to enhance their overall experience.
• Provide commentary on local features including astronomy, geography, flora, fauna, and cultural history where appropriate.
• Conduct pre-tour safety checks and ensure all equipment is functioning correctly. Report any issues to the manager prior to tours commencing.
• Monitor weather and environmental conditions and act in accordance with company safety protocols.
• Ensure guests are briefed on safety procedures and are comfortable throughout the tour.
• Maintain a clean, tidy, and professional appearance of all guiding areas and equipment.
• Use your photography experience to assist in the setup and delivery of astrophotography experiences where relevant.
• Support editing and photo delivery processes in coordination with other staff.
