Description

Refrigeration Start-up Technicians are essential for the efficient and accurate start-up of supermarket refrigeration, heating, and ventilation equipment. They ensure customer needs are met on time and assist with Energy Optimization (EO) projects. The ideal candidate should possess advanced knowledge in various areas including solid state controls, oil systems safety controls, mechanical sub-cooling, head pressure controls for energy reduction, energy management systems (EMS), refrigeration rack oil systems, de-frost diagnosis, and supermarket compressor system start-up.

DESIRED SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS, AND EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma, GED, or Coursework at an accredited vocational technical or trade school.
  • 3+ years of experience with supermarket EMS systems.
  • 5 – 7 years of experience in commercial refrigeration, particularly with parallel rack systems.
  • EMS Certification preferred.
  • EPA I and II Certification required.
  • Expert knowledge of refrigeration, ice machines, and electrical systems.
  • Expert knowledge of single systems, parallel rack systems, display cases, and walk-ins.
  • Ability to efficiently troubleshoot commercial and supermarket refrigeration equipment.
  • Expert knowledge of EMS systems in supermarket applications for wiring and programming (CPC, Novar, Danfoss).
  • Good communication skills to build strong relationships with customers, management, crew, and team.
  • Knowledge of reading blueprints related to refrigeration, electrical, and plumbing.
  • Willingness to travel, work overnight, and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work schedules, including others’, on a short-term basis.
  • Valid Driver’s License required at all times.
  • Be an honest team player, growth-oriented, ability to do whatever it takes; safely!

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Regularly required to stand and walk; lift and/or move up to 75 pounds; noise level is usually high.
All employees may be required to visit customer sites and/or complete ride-alongs with field technicians as part of their employment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform evacuations of parallel racks after verifying pressure tests.
  • Complete all EMS wiring and programming for various manufacturers of EMS systems.
  • Execute full start-up procedures for new parallel refrigeration systems and individual units.
  • Lead small projects such as single case and condenser change-outs.
  • Assist with EO projects including retro-commissioning of supermarkets, EMS upgrades, leak detection upgrades, and gas conversion projects.
  • Collaborate with local branch Service and Construction Managers on troubleshooting problematic stores, training junior technicians and foremen, and other support areas as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
