Description

About SSI
Settlement Services International (SSI) is a community organisation and social business that supports individuals and communities to reach their full potential. We work alongside multicultural communities, people seeking asylum, refugees, people with disability, and other vulnerable groups to foster an inclusive and empowered society. Our work is grounded in our values of respect, accountability, inclusion, innovation, and social justice.
Position Summary
SSI is seeking an experienced and skilled State Director – Western Australia to lead our partnership development, stakeholder relationships and community engagement in the State. This is a senior leadership role focused on establishing SSI’s presence in WA, building strategic partnerships, driving systemic change, and advocating for the needs and aspirations of multicultural communities. You will be instrumental in driving initiatives aligned with SSI’s Impact strategy, identifying and building services that address the needs of Western Australians, and collaborating with purpose-driven organisations across to deliver meaningful change for people and communities. You will build and activate opportunities for programs and services, in collaboration with community, sector partners, government, philanthropic and corporate stakeholders.
As the face of SSI in WA, you will champion social inclusion, cultural diversity, and economic empowerment by working with stakeholders across sectors—government, not-for-profit, corporate, academia, and community. The role is critical in influencing public policy, co-designing responsive services, strengthening sector capacity, and leading advocacy and public engagement strategies.

  • Serve as the principal representative of SSI in WA, building and nurturing relationships with:
  • Government and policymakers; Settlement and multicultural organisations; Community leaders and peak bodies; Philanthropic and corporate stakeholders.

Program Development and Service Co-design

  • Lead collaborative initiatives to co-design culturally responsive services and programs with communities and partners.
  • Engage with local stakeholders to identify emerging community needs, particularly in employment, recognition of qualifications, economic participation, and access to inclusive services.
  • Source and mobilise resources, funding, and partnerships to enable sustainable and scalable solutions.
  • Set up new service delivery operations and frameworks to establish a long-term SSI presence in WA.

Sector Capacity Building and Innovation

  • Facilitate research, symposiums, public forums, and knowledge-sharing activities that advance best practice.
  • Support the development of joint policy papers and collaborative projects addressing systemic issues.

Advocacy, Policy, and Public Relations

  • Lead the development of policy submissions, position statements, and advocacy campaigns that reflect the voices and rights of multicultural and marginalised communities.
  • Design and deliver targeted public relations strategies that build SSI’s brand, reputation, and influence in WA.

Key Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within the human services, multicultural, government, or not-for-profit sectors.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead strategic partnerships, influence policy, and represent organisations at the highest levels.
  • Strong track-record in co-designing programs and services in collaboration with community and sector partners.
  • Demonstrated success in establishing new services, building pipelines for growth, and implementing initiatives aligned to SSI’s strategic and social impact goals.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience in leading advocacy campaigns and public policy engagement.
  • Strategic thinking with strong planning, execution, and change management capabilities.
  • Commitment to SSI’s vision, purpose, and values.

Desirable

  • Existing networks across the WA multicultural, government, or community sectors.
  • Experience in social enterprise, service delivery, or cross-sector collaboration.
  • Tertiary qualifications in social policy, community development, public administration, or related fields.
