  • COG Grade 3: $97,563 - $105,427 plus superannuation.
    The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking 4 x State Training Instructors to provide a critical role within Security and Emergency Services Group.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold (or be willing to obtain) HLTAID014 - Provide advanced first aid
  • A full and current Victorian driver’s licence or a minimum P2 driver’s licence.
  • Have completed, or be willing to complete, a Prison Officer training course.
  • Have completed or be willing to complete and maintain currency in the TAE40110 Cert. IV in Training and Assessment, or as a minimum, the enterprise skill set, or equivalent.
  • Hold (or be willing to obtain) Instructor qualifications to the required standard set out by Corrections Victoria in Tactical Options, Fire Awareness, Formations, Baton, and OC.
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

The State Training Instructor is responsible for the coordination, development, and delivery of training to custodial officers across the correctional system, including within the SESG. The State Training Instructor requires strong interpersonal skills and an understanding of modern adult learning principles. The State Training Instructor is a subject matter expert in training packages, assessment packages, and emergency procedures, and ensures best-practice delivery of training.
The role requires strong communication skills, leadership, maturity, sound judgement, and confidence in decision making, with developed capabilities to coach, mentor, and motivate staff.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Contribute to creating, fostering, and sustaining a positive, safe, and healthy workforce culture built on DJCS values, professional excellence, teamwork, and safe work practices.
  • Prepare and deliver training and assessment packages, emergency procedures, and ensure consistency and integrity of training programs are maintained.
  • Coordinate and facilitate a range of state-wide training, in consultation with the Workforce Development Supervisors and other prison stakeholders as required.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Knowledge of Security and Emergency Services Group, Emergency Response Group operations and procedures.
  • Demonstrate any agreed fitness standards or the ability to attain a level of fitness that would withstand the demands of any training course and maintenance thereafter.
  • Ability to design and deliver training courses to both Correctional Services personnel and relevant private organisations as required.
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of the full range of Microsoft Windows and MS Office application suite software
