Description About Georgia Legal Services Program Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) is a statewide, nonprofit public interest law firm in Georgia that offers free civil legal services to low-income individuals, fostering equal access to justice and opportunities out of poverty. GLSP is founded on the belief that everyone deserves high-quality legal services regardless of income, age, race, or other demographic factors. GLSP runs 10 regional offices that serve Georgians with low incomes living outside metro Atlanta in 154 of the state’s 159 counties. We provide free legal aid across a wide range of civil issues, including family law, housing, access to public benefits, eviction prevention, farmworkers' rights, and educational access. GLSP employs approximately 200 full-time staff members. Job Summary Georgia Legal Services Program is seeking an experienced supervising attorney for its Statewide Housing Advice Line. The Housing Advice Line provides legal advice and limited legal services to people throughout GLSP’s service area when the local GLSP office is unable to provide assistance. The Advice Line is a virtual office, and all staff work remotely. The Director of GLSP’s Housing Unit will be the position’s direct supervisor. The Supervising Attorney will be responsible for supervising the work of both attorneys and paralegals. A Supervising Attorney handles a caseload while mentoring assigned staff attorneys and paralegals in their work and supervising assigned staff. A Supervising Attorney handles all of the duties of a staff attorney, as well as supervising others’ legal work and providing management for a group of assigned employees. The Advice Line provides advice and limited service to low-income tenants or private landlords. The Advice Line Attorneys work remotely. The Supervising Attorney for the Housing Advice Line handles all the duties of an Advice Line Attorney, as well as supervising others’ legal work and case management. Essential Functions · Effectively and efficiently provide legal advice, brief service, and referrals to clients. · Maintain electronic client case files, enter and scan information into the client’s electronic file, including documentation of legal advice provided to the client. · Develop strategies to increase the Advice Line’s efficiency and the quality of its legal work. · Supervise the work of the Advice Line staff, attorneys, and paralegals through case reviews. · Answer questions from Advice Line staff, attorneys, and paralegals, whether by phone, email, or Teams chat. · Monitor and control workloads of the Advice Line staff, attorneys, and paralegals. · Ensure the quality of the legal work of the Advice Line Attorneys and paralegals. · Monitor cases so that they are opened and closed promptly and in compliance with LSC regulations. · Update existing materials and develop new materials for use by Advice Line staff, attorneys, and paralegals. · Schedule ongoing training for the Advice Line staff, attorneys, and paralegals. · Monitor grant and contract compliance. · Communicates with GLSP’s Housing Unit Director. · Provide Advice Line staff, attorneys, and paralegals with ongoing feedback and annual performance reviews, · Foster positive work relationships and promote cooperation within the Advice Line and GLSP. Requirements · Graduate of an accredited law school and current member of the Georgia Bar with experience working with clients with low incomes. · A minimum of 5 years with GLSP and two or more years in a role supervising either attorneys or paralegals; experience supervising remote workers preferred. · Working knowledge of Georgia law governing the private landlord-tenant relationship. · Proven leadership skills and ability to build effective working relationships inside GLSP and with key individuals, officials, and organizations outside of GLSP. · Strong organizational skills and ability to perform tasks necessary to maintain a substantial active caseload. · Ability to analyze, write, and present ideas and legal concepts clearly and concisely. · Computer literacy, which includes familiarity with using email, Excel, Word, SharePoint, LegalServer, Teams, Zoom, and other computer programs and applications. · Must have reliable transportation and a valid Georgia driver's license; · Willingness and ability to work as part of a team in a professional and collaborative manner. · Ability to speak Spanish is highly valued.
