Mō te tūranga | About the role The Department of Conservation has recently made exciting changes in how we deliver our work —so we can achieve the conservation outcomes we’re aiming for. As part of this, we’ve introduced a new role: Statutory Advisor. Reporting to the Principal Ranger, you’ll be kept busy managing the processing of permissions and other regulatory applications for the Southern South Island region. The position will be focussed on: Using your expertise to provide advice to resolve complex strategic issues and opportunities in the statutory space Bringing your continuous improvement mindset to identify areas of efficiency Using your excellent communication skills to provide clear advice and updates to both internal and external stakeholders Collaborating and maintaining positive working relationships to keep things moving and ensure customers have a positive and timely experience when it comes to regulatory and statutory work Click here for the Role Description We have two vacancies available in the regional Statutory and Community Team – one will be based out of Murihiku/Invercargill office, the other out of our Te Anau, Queenstown or Wānaka offices. Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience If you have some of the following, we are keen to hear from you: A tertiary qualification in regulatory, statutory legal or a related field would be advantageous Some experience in applying policy, statutory processes, and legislation to assess risk, complexity, and priority, with an understanding of the natural resource policy environment. Analytical thinker with the ability to gather and interpret information to provide technical advice to applicants and stakeholders Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and keep everything on track to meet deadlines Experience understanding and applying iwi/ hapū perspective to inform decisions Problem solving and continuous-improvement mentality, always seeking ways to improve systems and processes Solutions focussed and consistently act with integrity to deliver meaningful results A collaborative, team player who can build rapport easily with a range of people to get desired results Understands where the Māori–Crown relationship and Treaty of Waitangi principles play a key role in DOC’s responsibilities and decision making Our Values At The Department of Conservation, everyone’s journey is unique.
