Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Sous Chef to join our opening team. This is an exceptional opportunity to help establish the culinary standards and culture of our new restaurant. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with high-volume steakhouse operations, exceptional knife skills, and a commitment to culinary excellence.

Key ResponsibilitiesKitchen Operations

  • Assist the Executive Chef in daily kitchen operations and menu execution
  • Oversee food preparation, cooking, and plating to ensure consistent quality and presentation
  • Master our signature steak preparation techniques including various cuts, temperatures, and cooking methods
  • Supervise and coordinate kitchen staff during service periods
  • Ensure proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures are followed
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering and receiving

Leadership & Training

  • Train and mentor line cooks and prep staff on recipes, techniques, and standards
  • Lead by example in maintaining a positive, professional kitchen environment.
  • Assist in staff scheduling and performance management
  • Support the Executive Chef in developing and implementing kitchen policies

Quality Control

  • Maintain consistency in food quality, portion control, and presentation
  • Conduct regular taste tests and quality checks throughout service
  • Ensure all dishes meet Coastal Chop House standards before leaving the kitchen
  • Address any food quality issues immediately and implement corrective actions

Menu Development

  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef on menu development and seasonal offerings
  • Assist in recipe development, costing, and standardization
  • Contribute creative ideas for specials and new menu items
  • Support kitchen operations during menu testing and rollouts

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Sous Chef or Senior Line Cook in an upscale restaurant
  • Extensive experience with steak cookery and grill operations
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and HACCP principles
  • Culinary degree or equivalent professional experience preferred
  • Proven ability to work in high-volume, fast-paced environments
  • Excellent knife skills and fundamental cooking techniques
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift to 50 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous steakhouse or fine dining experience
  • Experience with seafood preparation and coastal cuisine
  • ServSafe Manager certification
  • Bilingual capabilities (Spanish/English)
  • Experience with opening new restaurant concepts
