Description Reports to: General Manager Steel Position Summary: The Steel Detailing Manger coordinates project schedules, manages detailing sub- contractors, and ensures the final drawings are accurate and appropriate for fabrication. Pillars: 1) Safety, 2) Quality, 3) Happiness, 4) Performance About the Role We are seeking a highly organized and detail-driven Steel Detailing Manager to lead and oversee all outsourced detailing operations for our structural steel fabrication facility. This role serves as the critical bridge between design intent and fabrication execution. The Steel Detailing Manager is responsible for managing third-party detailing partners, protecting fabrication schedules, enforcing company standards, and ensuring shop and erection drawings are complete, accurate, and production ready. Key Responsibilities & Areas of Accountability Leadership & Vendor Management Manage, plan, assign, and review the work of outside detailing consultants. Establish deadlines, production standards, and performance expectations. Conduct weekly coordination meetings with detailing partners. Monitor detailing progress and enforce milestone dates. Standardize detailing expectations across all vendors. Maintain thorough knowledge of departmental processes and continuously improve workflow efficiency. Quality Control & Standards Enforcement Review and approve fabrication and erection drawings and models to ensure: Accuracy and completeness Compliance with contract documents Adherence to company standards and preferred details Proactively reduce shop rework, RFIs, and field issues through detailed drawing review. Import consultant files into Tekla EPM and coordinate resolution of errors. Lead resolution of detailing-related RFIs and coordination challenges. Schedule & Production Alignment Develop detailing schedules aligned with: Material procurement timelines Mill rolling dates Fabrication demand plans Erection sequence Assist with production schedule development. Track drawing submittals, approvals, and release status. Prioritize drawing releases to support shop production sequencing. Identify and mitigate risks that could impact rolling, fabrication, or erection schedules. Assist in communicating design changes and schedule impacts to internal stakeholders. Cross-Functional Coordination Work closely with project managers, estimating, procurement, and fabrication supervisors. Coordinate Tekla Structures/SDS2 deliveries from outside consultants. Support alignment between detailing output and shop production capabilities. Assist in communication and implementation of design revisions. Qualifications 7+ years of experience in structural steel detailing, fabrication, or related operations. Strong working knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes. Proficiency reviewing SDS2 and/or Tekla models and shop drawings. Understanding of AISC standards and connection detailing. Knowledge & Skills: Strong knowledge of structural and miscellaneous steel design, fabrication process, and industry standards. Experience with steel detailing software SDS/2 or Tekla Structures Steel. Basic working knowledge of Microsoft office including (Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel) and Windows operating systems.
