POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for the decontamination, preparation and distribution of sterile and non-sterile items.  Ensures and maintains safety and quality in the performance of these duties. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: 1. High school education or equivalent. Experience: 1. Previous sterile processing or surgical technology experience is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 1. Must possess consistent ability to follow procedures and instructions accurately. 2. Ability to effectively communicate with Medical Center personnel and physicians from many departments to fill requisitions, explain equipment operation, provide information, and request services.  Works closely with other employees in the department to carry out work responsibilities.  Occasionally, relates to the general public to provide supplies and information. License/Certification/Registration: 1. Employees have 18 months from date of hire/transfer to pass a nationally accredited central service exam and obtain one of the two following credentials: 1. Certified registered central service technician credential CRCST or 2. Certified sterile processing and distribution technician CSPDT credential 2. Employees must annually complete 10 hours of continuing education. (NOTE: The continuing education required under this subsection shall be in areas related to the functions of a central service technician.)  3. Employee provides proof of compliance with the continuing education requirements to Human Resources by submitting a list of completed courses.
