Description Brattleboro Memorial Hospital / Southern Vermont Health Services Corporation Job Description Job Title: STERILE PROCESSING TECHNICIAN Job Code: 396 Hours: Varies FTE: .8 (32 hours/week) Weekend Schedule: Rotating ON CALL Holiday Schedule: Rotating ON CALL Call Schedule: Rotating ON CALL FLSA Status: Non-exempt Department Name: Sterile Processing (6750) Location: Brattleboro, Vermont JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments, medical devices, and supplies for the Operating Room and hospital-wide departments. Ensures all processing activities meet AORN, AAMI, and facility standards to maintain patient safety and infection prevention. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support Perioperative Services operations. DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE: Perioperative Services consists of the Pre Anesthesia Clinic (PAC), Operating Room (OR), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU), Endoscopy, Minor Procedures and Sterile Processing Dept. Patients are cared for from 10months until the end of life. Cesarean sections are performed in the Birthing Center operating room. Perioperative Services is staff ed by Registered Nurses, Surgical Technologists, Scheduler/Assistant Staffing Coordinator, Sterile Processing Technicians, Operating Room Assistant, a Unit Secretary, LNA, Perioperative Supervisors and a Director of Perioperative Services. The OR provides care 24 hours a day, each day of the year. The OR’s elective schedule is 7:00am to 3:30pm Monday through Friday excluding holidays. Care is coordinated between physician offices, the OR, Anesthesiology, the Pre Anesthesia Clinic and the OR/SPD. Start times for surgery, length of day schedule and the block schedule are established by the Surgical Governance Council. The ACU/ PACU has an area for the immediate pre/post operative care, education and reassessment of patients for surgery, for the admission and discharge of select ACU patients, and primarily, for the provision of intensive observation and care of patients following operative and special procedures. Sterile Processing department decontaminates, inspects, assembles, sterilizes and distributes instruments and equipment for the OR and Physician Practices. Pre Anesthesia Clinic facilitates pre-operative patient optimization. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Training as a CSR or OR Tech or comparable experience preferred. Experience: Recent experience in hospital CSP or OR preferred. Licensure/Certification: Not required Mental Efforts: Requires manual dexterity. Requires ability to differentiate colors. Requires ability to read.
