Description
Responsible for the sterilization and cleaning of medical equipment, instruments, and supplies. Oversees retrieving contaminated supplies and delivering sterile supplies, maintaining inventory, and preparing sterile instrument trays for surgeries, examinations, and procedures. Tests and reports any issues or problems with the sterilization equipment's. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Principal Accountabilities: Knowledge of case cart preparation system, surgical instruments, and the different methods of sterilization (Steam, HLD, hydrogen), basic computer knowledge with an instrument tracking system. Must be able to stand for prolong periods of time, heavy lifting of surgical sets, pulling and pushing of sterilization transport carts and case carts. The technician must perform tasks quickly and efficiently, paying close attention to details and understanding the principals involved in each task performed. The technician also performs a variety of duties to maintain infection control standards for the health and safety of hospital patients, medical staff, and personnel. Must be able to: Operates all required equipment and machinery accurately and safely, prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments and supplies according to parameters of sterilization. 2. Accurately handles and cares for instruments appropriately, including appropriate selection of cleaning agents and lubricants. 3. Correctly peel-packs supplies/instruments, wraps instruments for sterilization, inspect each instrument for use, function, completeness, and cleanliness. 4. Ensures safe care to patients, staff, and visitors; adheres to all FSC policies, procedures and standards and quality of service. 5. Cleans, sets up, sterilizes, and distributes instruments as scheduled on each shift. 6. Handles and disposes of infectious waste appropriately. 7. Adheres to Standard Precautions as appropriate, which may include: the use of protective barriers, as appropriate (e.g., gloves, masks, gowns, pocket masks, and/or safety glasses). 8. Performs other related duties as assigned.
