Organization: PAMF-Palo Alto Medical Foundation CAD Position Overview: A Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for cleaning, sterilizing, and preparing surgical instruments and medical equipment to support safe patient care.The role includes cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing medical instruments using manual and mechanical methods, operating sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, inspecting and assembling instrument sets, and packaging and storing sterilized items for distribution. Technicians work independently, using sound judgment to support departmental operations by maintaining, testing, and setting up equipment as needed while following strict infection-control protocols. They ensure accurate inventory management and documentation, integrate education and technical skills to carry out safe and precise sterilization procedures, and adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations and organizational policies to protect patient privacy and safety. The position requires working in a clinical environment with exposure to chemicals and infectious materials, wearing proper PPE, and performing physically demanding tasks, with strong attention to detail and organizational skills essential for optimal patient care. Job Description: EDUCATION: Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma HS Diploma or GED Other: Graduate of an accredited sterile processing program. TYPICAL EXPERIENCE: 1-year recent relevant experience. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: General knowledge of surgical tools, procedures, views, and equipment. Ability to interpret a variety of data and instructions, furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology. Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadline. General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook).
