Job Purpose To ensure accurate counting, verification, and reconciliation of all store stock in line with Pick n Pay inventory management procedures. The Stock Counter plays a key role in maintaining stock integrity, supporting loss prevention initiatives, and ensuring accurate stock data that contributes to effective store operations, reduced shrinkage, and improved profitability. Key Performance Areas (KPAs) Stock Counting and Accuracy Inventory Verification and Control Shrinkage and Loss Prevention Recordkeeping and Documentation Health, Safety, and Compliance Teamwork and Operational Support Key ResponsibilitiesStock Counting and Accuracy Perform daily, cycle, and full stock counts according to store stocktake schedules. Accurately record stock quantities, product codes, and descriptions using count sheets or electronic devices. Verify physical stock against system records and investigate variances. Conduct recounts where required and escalate unresolved discrepancies. Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in all counting activities. Inventory Verification and Control Assist with receiving processes by verifying deliveries against invoices and goods received documentation. Ensure stock is correctly labelled, barcoded, and stored in designated locations. Identify, report, and isolate expired, damaged, or incorrectly placed stock. Support daily, weekly, and monthly stock reconciliations. Assist with stock adjustments and variance investigations under supervision. Shrinkage and Loss Prevention Identify and report missing, damaged, or short-supplied stock immediately. Adhere to all stock control and loss prevention procedures. Maintain vigilance to reduce risks of theft, misplacement, and procedural non-compliance. Participate in stock audits and investigations as required by management. Recordkeeping and Documentation Maintain accurate, complete, and legible stock count records. Support internal and external audit requirements through proper filing and documentation. Assist in compiling stock variance and reconciliation reports for management review. Ensure all documentation is completed in line with operational standards. Health, Safety, and Compliance Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA 85 of 1993). Follow all Pick n Pay Health & Safety, Food Safety, and operational standards. Maintain cleanliness and order in stockrooms and counting areas. Follow safe handling, lifting, and storage procedures at all times. Report hazards, incidents, and non-conformances immediately. Teamwork and Operational Support Work collaboratively with supervisors and store teams to ensure smooth stock operations. Support stock audits, stocktakes, and operational projects as required. Assist with general stockroom organisation and housekeeping when needed. Communicate effectively regarding stock issues, variances, and operational challenges.
