An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Stop Smoking Advisors Practitioners to join our expanding team . Hillingdon Stop Smoking Service is committed to providing accessible, evidenced based services that treat tobacco dependence, effectively helping smokers to stop smoking, reduce smoking health harms and inequality and ensure residents stay healthy, giving children the best start in life.
The NHS Long Term Plan (LTP) is preparing to make a new contribution to making England a ‘Smoke free society’, by 2030 and sets out the Parliamentary Group on Smoking and Health with several recommendations for the Tobacco Control Plan. In addition, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NCE) Guidance NG209 also sets out what is required of stop smoking interventions including the provision of behavioural and licensed products such as nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) .
The post holder will contribute to supporting people within the borough, who want to stop smoking or using tobacco, contributing to the reduction of smoking rates thus improve the health of the local population, reduce smoking related ill health, disability and preventable death and reduce health inequalities. These posts will be specialised to working with service user who may be experiencing mental health problems providing specialist support and treatment to support them to stop smoking and maximise positive health outcomes .

To provide smoking cessation advice and support through established groups, one to one and telephone interventions in maternity/Acute medical Unit setting and community settings.

  • To provide smoking cessation interventions in line with the evidence base and to agreed National standards
  • Utilise motivational techniques, assess client’s motivation to quit smoking and maintain relationships with the client group to support smoking cessation
  • Develop an action plan with the client and discuss the use of appropriate pharmacological support suitable to them.
  • Extensive relevant knowledge of evidence-based information on smoking cessation approaches and methods
  • Attend bespoke training events as required for career and continuous professional development.

The Addictions Directorate with CNWL Foundation Trust is a large, well-established provider which offers a wide range of specialist NHS drug and alcohol treatment interventions to the diverse and multicultural populations in Central and North West London. Our Drug and Alcohol services include community services, and the National Gambling Service and a Club Drug Clinic. In addition, we provide smoking cessation services in Hillingdon and Camden & Islington.
Our substance misuse services are dedicated to helping reduce the harm caused by smoking cessation; helping people overcome their dependency and helping clients and their families rebuild their lives and enable recovery. We are committed to working in partnership with other providers and service users in local systems of treatment and recovery.
