Description Job Title: Store Manager Position Summary The Store Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of store operations, driving revenue growth, managing costs, ensuring operational excellence, and developing high-performing teams. This role plays a critical part in supporting the sales of all products across our company's footprint and achieving company goals through strong leadership, strategic decision-making, and effective execution of business initiatives. The Store Manager oversees all store activities, ensuring exceptional customer service, inventory management, financial performance, safety compliance, and team development. Requirements Key Responsibilities 1. Leadership & People Management • Lead, coach, and develop store team members (counter sales, warehouse/yard, drivers, cashiers, etc.). • Set clear expectations, assign daily tasks, and monitor performance. • Conduct hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and corrective action as needed. • Complete regular performance reviews and support development plans for team members. • Foster a positive, safety-focused, customer-oriented culture. 2. Financial Performance • Drive overall store sales and revenue growth across all product categories. • Own store P&L performance: sales, gross margin, expenses, and profitability. • Review daily/weekly/monthly reports and take action to address gaps and opportunities. • Manage controllable costs effectively, including labor, expenses, and inventory-related costs. • Control operating expenses (labor, supplies, shrink, overtime, etc.) within budget. • Participate in annual budget and forecasting as requested by leadership. 3. Sales & Customer Service • Ensure all customers, especially contractors and key accounts, receive prompt, professional service. • Support and coach employees on product knowledge, add-on selling, and solution-based selling. • Build and maintain strong relationships with local contractors, builders, and vendors. • Partner with outside sales to support pricing, quotes, and follow up on opportunities. • Resolve customer issues, complaints, and returns in a timely and professional manner. • Foster long-term customer relationships that drive loyalty and repeat business. 4. Store Operations • Oversee daily store opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and deposits. • Ensure store, counter, showroom, and yard are clean, organized, and merchandised to standards. • Coordinate with warehouse/yard operations to ensure accurate picking, loading, and deliveries. • Monitor and enforce compliance with company policies, procedures, and SOPs. • Ensure equipment, vehicles, and facilities are maintained and service issues are addressed. • Implement and monitor store systems, reports, and operational checklists. • Ensure all store operations comply with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. 5. Inventory & Merchandising • Oversee inventory levels to support sales while minimizing stock-outs and excess inventory. • Ensure accurate receiving, stocking, cycle counts, and inventory adjustments. • Work with Operations Manager on forecasting, special orders, and key product lines. • Maintain appropriate merchandising, signage, and pricing to drive product movement and margin. • Control and reduce inventory loss through consistent auditing, shrinkage prevention, and variance analysis. 6. Safety & Compliance • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to all company and OSHA safety standards. • Conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, and follow-up on corrective actions. • Ensure proper storage and handling of materials. • Enforce the use of PPE, safe lifting, and equipment operation procedures. • Ensure compliance with company policies, ethical standards, and operational guidelines. 7. Leadership and People Development • Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team through coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations. • Ensure clear communication of goals, priorities, and performance expectations. • Recruit, train, and retain top talent to support store operations. • Build strong teamwork and open communication within the store. • Lead by example in safety, integrity, work ethic, and customer focus. 8. Compliance and Reporting • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reports related to store performance. • Conduct regular reviews of processes to identify improvement opportunities. • Ensure compliance with company policies and operational guidelines. • Perform other related duties as assigned. ________________________________________ Qualifications Education & Experience • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred. • 3–5 years of experience in retail, building materials, construction supply, or similar environment required. • 2+ years of experience in a supervisory or management role (assistant manager, department lead, etc.). Knowledge, Skills & Competencies • Strong understanding of products, and basic industry terminology (or ability to learn quickly). • Proven ability to lead a team, drive results, and hold others accountable. • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills with customers and key accounts. • Ability to analyze sales, margin, and expense reports and make sound business decisions. • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution abilities. • Effective verbal and written communication skills. • Proficiency with basic computer applications and point-of-sale (POS) / inventory systems.
