The Town of Oakville is looking for a Strategic Business Advisor that will combine their drive, passion and expertise to help design and implement solutions that tackle complex business and community challenges through adaptable project delivery methods, human centered design, and a relentless pursuit of continuous improvement.
Reporting to the Manager, Business Support Services, the Strategic Business Advisor supports the Community Services & Corporate Services Commissions and their departments with business analysis, policy and procedure development, process reviews and design as well as project management.
The Strategic Business Advisor identifies and implements new business opportunities, analyzes data and compiles reports, conducts research, develops plans and makes recommendations on best practices, protocols and business processes with a focus on increasing efficiencies and improving service delivery.

HOW DO I QUALIFY?

The ideal candidate will have a university degree or college diploma in Business Administration, Business Analysis, Public Administration, or equivalent. Your formal education is complemented by your experience in the following:

  • 5 years of broad range and in-depth strategic planning and policy development.
  • Extensive experience providing consulting services to senior management in the areas of performance reporting, business process review and re-engineering, program review and service improvement, and strategy development and planning.
  • Managing projects related to business solutions/services, continuous improvement, business process management, and/performance management.
  • Directing complex processes, procedures and documentation related to developing, managing, executing and controlling program and project plans.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The ideal candidate will also have refined influential skills to resolve conflict with stakeholders and achieve common objectives and an ability to analyze issues, assess risks and develop/recommend solutions and best practices. You will possess excellent presentation and communication skills, a willingness to learn new perspectives and techniques, a proficiency in various technology tools, and are able to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
The following would also be considered assets: Lean Six Sigma certification (Green belt), Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) designation, Certified Change Management Professional designation, and Certification in Business Analysis or Analytics.

CORE KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED FOR SUCCESS:

You are an experienced professional with a comprehensive knowledge of data analysis and reporting for evidence based decision-making. You are proficient in Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.

Responsibilities

As the Strategic Business Advisor you will:

  • Conduct business analysis activities to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Undertake research and identify best practices on business improvement projects that will enable process enhancements, improve client satisfaction, and efficiencies in service delivery.
  • Identify issues, conduct research and analysis, identify best practices, develop options and recommendations and create policy/procedure documents.
  • Provide project management leadership in the development and implementation of departmental and commission initiatives and policies, including planning, scheduling and coordinating staff and resources for the project.
  • Utilize data and visualization tools to model, analyze complex information, and make recommendations for improvements to business processes.
  • Develop and deliver various communication and change management plans and strategies.
  • Develop an acute understanding of key organizational relationships, interests, and values to provide project sponsors with specialized advice surrounding the design of project deliverables.
  • Contribute to Council reports and briefing notes to clearly present recommendations, data insights, and project updates to senior leadership and council.
