STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS KNOWLEDGE:

You can demonstrate:

  • an understanding of theories, principles and practices of current communications and marketing, as well as relevant legislation to provide strategic communications advice and services.
  • an understanding of communications planning and implementation to develop and propose strategies.
  • the ability to utilize communications, social/digital media, marketing and public relations tactics to develop and deliver communications and distribute policy and program information.

ANALYTICAL AND PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS:

You can demonstrate:

  • the ability to conduct environmental scans and monitor and analyze performance for current and future communications strategies, activities and approaches.
  • analytical skills and techniques to evaluate complex problems and gauge media and public opinion trends and reactions.
  • the ability to assess situations, anticipate risks and determine appropriate response/action for strategic communications initiatives.

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

You can demonstrate:

  • the ability to prepare/edit materials and convey information in a clear, concise manner to the appropriate target audience.
  • political acuity and the ability to understand the government’s priorities.
  • proven judgment, tact and diplomacy to handle urgent, highly sensitive and confidential matters.
  • relationship management, advisory, consultation and negotiation skills to gain consensus on communications strategies and programs from a diverse group of stakeholders.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS:

You can demonstrate:

  • project management skills and experience to develop project plans, manage timelines and complete deliverables within strict timelines.
  • leadership skills to lead and coordinate working groups and external service providers.
  • the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
