QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of a 3-year diploma or equivalent in business management, agriculture, sustainability and/or agri-food focus.
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and computer skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in all matters related to students, staffing and programming.
  • Strong organizational skills to balance day-to-day operations with big-picture planning.
  • Solid understanding of sustainable urban agriculture practices, including crop planning, greenhouse systems, and pest/disease management.
  • Familiarity with farm equipment, irrigation systems, soil health, and yield tracking
  • Experience incorporating Work-Integrated Learning (WIL), student research, and experiential education into farm operations.
  • Capacity to manage resources, scheduling, and workflows across multiple sites.
  • Experience working with industry and municipalities to drive policy amendments.
  • Ability to work professionally and effectively with people at all levels in and outside of the college.
  • Knowledge of the different levels of government and how they fund projects and organizations.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the strategic development of sustainable urban agriculture education by expanding on-site farm infrastructure, learning materials, and the farm’s capacity to host schools, community groups, and post-secondary classes.
  • Support the development and implementation of innovative academic programs and strategic initiatives that build a skilled, future-ready workforce in sustainable urban agriculture and resilient community development.
  • Represent the Barrett Centre at industry, community, and public events to raise awareness, share insights, and build meaningful strategic partnerships.
  • Collaborate with international partners to support the planning and development of urban farm operations tailored to regional and cultural needs.
  • Collaborate on creating a centralized, accessible repository of educational and training resources to support inclusive, equitable learning for diverse audiences, including traditionally underrepresented groups
  • Manage the implementation of reporting practices to document farming activities and gather knowledge and data to inform planning and performance measurement
