Strategy and Governance Advisor
Job Description
An excellent opportunity is available for a Strategy and Governance Advisor to join the Strategy and Governance team within the Office of the Director.
About the Position
The Strategy and Governance Advisor will support the Senior Manager, Strategy and Governance in the development, review, and implementation of the Institute’s strategic objectives, particularly in ensuring alignment across departments and strategic projects. This role is key in providing strategic advice, managing governance frameworks, and supporting critical partnerships and advisory boards.
Selection Criteria

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • PhD qualification in Life Sciences.
  • Proven experience in a strategic advisory role, with a strong focus on analysis in an academic, research, or scientific environment.
  • Understanding of the medical and scientific research environment, particularly the areas of cancer, infection, immune disorders, drug discovery and other focus areas of the Institute.
  • Strong ability to analyse data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights that support strategic decisions.
  • Familiarity with methods for measuring and evaluating the impact of scientific research (e.g., publications, patents, clinical trials) and its translation into real-world medical solutions.

Personal Qualities:

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and prioritise responsively.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and visual), with the ability to present complex data in a clear and compelling way.
  • Ability to maintain high integrity and confidentiality.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, bringing analytical insights into broader strategic discussions.
  • Expertise in identifying problems, analysing root causes, and developing solutions that are sustainable and scalable.

Terms of Appointment
This position is available in an ongoing, full time capacity. Salary is Professional Services Employee (PSE) Level 9 ($137,776 - $149,135). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
