Description Street Outreach Supervisor (SOS) (40 hours, Full-time) Exempt BUILD, Inc. (Broader Urban Involvement and Leadership Development) is presently seeking a committed, self-motivated, and innovative individual to join our team. BUILD is a nationally respected gang intervention, violence prevention, and youth development organization based on Chicago’s West Side. The Supervisor of Street Outreach (SOS) plays a key leadership role within BUILD’s Intervention Services Team, overseeing daily community engagement efforts led by street outreach specialists. This position is responsible for coordinating and delivering outreach services that reduce violence, promote healing, and connect individuals and families to essential resources. The Supervisor will implement Community Violence Intervention (CVI) best practices and collaborate with the Director to develop and execute strategic outreach plans. These plans will focus on engaging youth impacted by systemic challenges, individuals exposed to violence or trauma, and community stakeholders. The Supervisor also ensures that outreach efforts are integrated with BUILD’s wraparound services to support long-term, positive change. The (SOS) reports directly to the Director Intervention Services (DIS). Key Responsibilities are but not limited to: Provide daily supervision, coaching, and support to street outreach specialists. Execute the department’s strategic outreach plan, engaging youth and individuals affected by violence, trauma, or justice system involvement. Coordinate and lead CVI-informed engagement activities, including: Peace circles and restorative justice sessions Pop-up events (e.g., basketball tournaments, block parties, art workshops) Conflict mediation and violence de-escalation Resource navigation for housing, employment, legal aid, and mental health services School and juvenile justice system partnerships Neighborhood canvassing to share BUILD services and identify individuals in need Build and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders, including schools, police departments, local businesses, and criminal justice institutions. Collaborate with program support staff to ensure referrals are connected to appropriate services and programs. Support individuals at risk of returning to gangs or harmful behaviors by connecting them to positive opportunities and community resources. Track outreach activities, service delivery, and outcomes using appropriate data systems. Participate in ongoing training and professional development related to CVI and trauma-informed care. Cross-train staff on effective engagement strategies with youth, community stakeholders, and partner organizations. Communicate program progress and challenges to the Director, offering recommendations and seeking guidance as needed. Stay informed about current events and community dynamics to anticipate challenges and promote positive outcomes. Apply trauma-informed care principles in all community engagement efforts. Establish and strengthen partnerships with schools to support youth violence prevention strategies. Facilitate individual and group sessions in safe spaces, including Peace Circles, gender-specific groups, life skills workshops, gang mediations, and conflict resolution sessions. Conduct bi-weekly meetings with outreach staff to review documentation and planning. Maintain a flexible schedule to meet community needs, including evenings and weekends. Represent BUILD at public events and community forums, promoting awareness and support for the organization’s mission. Participate in agency outreach, recruitment, and civic engagement activities, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in social work, Criminal Justice, Community Development, or related field preferred but not required. Minimum 5 years of experience in street outreach, violence prevention, or community engagement. Proven leadership and supervisory experience. Strong understanding of CVI principles and trauma-informed practices. Excellent communication, mediation, and relationship-building skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Familiarity with Chicago’s neighborhoods and community dynamics is a plus. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
