POSITION OVERVIEW

Giffen Consulting Ltd. (Giffen) is looking to add a Structural Designer to join a growing engineering team. We are looking for an individual with a mining and heavy industrial background to join us on a full-time basis (hybrid, 3 days per week in our office) at our Vancouver or Toronto Office. This is an intermediate level position that offers opportunities for career progression.

Qualifications + Experience

  • Diploma in Structural Engineering Technology or equivalent from an accredited university or college
  • 7+ years progressive experience as a Structural Designer on Mining / Heavy Industrial Projects
  • Familiar with greenfield and brownfield projects
  • Experience in Structural, Concrete and Platework design plant layout with crushing, grinding, materials handling, flotation, CIL/CIP, slurry, pumping, slurry agitation, particle size classification and separation would be highly regarded
  • Familiar with structural BIM and analysis software like Revit, Advanced Steel and RISA is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and codes of practic
Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be able to:

  • Providing structural design and drafting support
  • Develop 3D models using Advanced Steel and integration into RISA
  • Prepare drawings for reinforced concrete and structural steel using Advanced Steel
  • Analyze designs of structures, building envelope systems, and structural components while adhering to established guidelines and client specifications
  • Interpreting complex drawings that incorporate interfacing civil, structural and architectural design requirements with piping, mechanical, and electrical disciplines
  • Prepare material take-offs
  • Reviewing and performing quality checks of project documents prior to issue for scope and presentation against project standards and specifications
  • Provide input on tendering, contract administration, schedule, and budget to ensure projects are completed to specification.
  • Write and review technical reports, specifications, and construction specifications
  • Ability and willingness to travel for site visits
  • Ability to present project designs and concepts to clients
  • Collaborate with vendors, clients, and other key stakeholders
