Job Description
AECOM is hiring a Structural Engineer for their Highway Engineering Team in Western Canada. We support flexible work location including remote and hybrid models.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Providing professional engineering services including technical specifications, design criteria and intent, constructability reviews and staging plans for new and rehab structural projects.
- Delivering of high quality and cost-effective structural evaluation and design solutions for highway projects using internal and external sources.
- Delivering the analysis, development, and implementation of structural designs for mid to large, complex, multi-modal and major highway expansion projects involving functional, preliminary, and detailed designs.
- Providing structural assessments including, condition, load capacity, service life, rehabilitation and functional needs, life cycle costing, and renewal options analysis.
- Providing structural inspection and assessment reports including having the ability to travel province wide, on a short notice, for emergency response or to assess structural integrity of highway infrastructure.
- Project managing assignments from planning through design and construction including leading project meetings, developing scope, schedule & budget and collaborating with the design team and client.
- Providing structural designs for mid to large, complex, multi-modal and major highway expansion projects involving functional, preliminary, and detailed designs and coordinating professional, engineering services involving other key highway engineering disciplines such as drainage, hydrotechnical, geotechnical, environment, geometrics, traffic, safety, and electrical
- Supervising or providing engineering services during construction and project close out with record drawings.
- Applying the quality management system for structural engineering design projects including quality control and assurance procedures, checks and independent reviews at different phases of designs.
- Leading proposal development and teaming for design assignments through collaboration with other business lines within AECOM and subconsultants.
- Supervising or providing field reviews and/or coordinate site construction activities ensuring compliance with construction contract documents and design intents.
- Implementing corporate policies related to quality management, risk assessment and sustainable legacies while supporting AECOM’s vision, values, and key business development priorities.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in Civil Engineering
- 4 years progressive experience as professional of record
- Experienced with the applications of Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC), BC Supplement to CHBDC and the BC MOTI Standard Specifications for Highway Construction,.
- Registered P. Eng., or immediately eligible for registration with Engineers & Geoscientists of BC.
- Experienced with a variety of software programs used for structural analysis and design.
- Structures include highway bridges, tunnels, retaining walls, large culverts, and sign structures.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Structural Engineering
- Knowledge and experience in developing and interpreting highway engineering policies, practices, procedures, standards, and regulations in BC.
- Familiarity with Master Municipal Construction Documents and BC Building Codes.
- Strong interpersonal, negotiating, problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
