Description

THE OPPORTUNITY:

We are seeking an Intermediate Structural Engineer to join our Burnaby office. This role focuses on structural assessment, design, and long-term planning for existing residential and mixed-use buildings. You’ll work closely with project managers and building science specialists to deliver high-quality solutions for restoration, seismic upgrades, and capital renewal planning.
The ideal candidate is a recently registered P.Eng. (1–2 years) with strong technical fundamentals, excellent communication skills, and a passion for improving aging infrastructure through practical and sustainable engineering.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • P.Eng. designation in good standing with EGBC, ideally held for 1–2 years.
  • Solid understanding of the BC Building Code and relevant structural standards (e.g., CSA A23.3, CSA S16, NBCC seismic provisions).
  • Proficient with structural design and analysis software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, RAM, or similar).
  • Skilled in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office tools; able to clearly document findings and produce professional reports.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort with field work, including work at heights.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct site inspections and structural assessments of existing buildings, identifying deficiencies, safety concerns, and upgrade opportunities.
  • Prepare detailed structural reports, concept designs, and capital repair or rehabilitation plans.
  • Develop structural designs for building repairs, seismic retrofits, and component replacements, ensuring code compliance and constructability.
  • Produce drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for tender packages, and support construction administration.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including envelope consultants and project managers—on restoration and upgrade projects.
  • Coordinate and review architectural, mechanical, and building envelope drawings to ensure structural compatibility and project integration.
  • Attend client meetings and provide technical insight during project planning and delivery.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to quality assurance processes.
