Responsibilities

We are looking for Structural Examiners to join our Rail & HighwayStructures team based in Stockport. You’ll be part of a small, close-knit team contributing to the safety and resilience of the UK’s critical infrastructure.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status with ICE, IStructE, or similar (or working towards).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in structural inspection, assessment, or asset management of infrastructure assets.
  • STE4/STE5 competence.
  • A valid UK driving license and willingness to travel nationally.
  • Previous experience with bridges, culverts, retaining walls, tunnels, or other major infrastructure assets.
  • Confidence in mentoring junior staff and providing constructive feedback.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver structural examinations in accordance with Network Rail standards and other specifications.
  • Review inspection, examination, and survey reports to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Provide engineering recommendations to support asset management decisions.
  • Conduct QA reviews on reports prior to client submission.
  • Work across sectors including rail, highwaysand civil buildings.
  • Support and train engineers and examiners to raise reporting standards and progress STE competencies.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to align technical delivery with project goals.
  • Liaise with contractors to ensure safe access to challenging locations (e.g. working at height, confined spaces).
