DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking an experienced Structural Iron Worker to install mechanical equipment, erect steel structures, and perform related tasks on industrial commercial projects in Calgary. The role involves working closely with site supervision to ensure equipment layout, assembly, and installation meet design specifications, while maintaining high safety standards.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Structural Iron Worker or similar role.
  • Ability to read blueprints and have own tools and transport.
  • Certifications in Welding, Forklift, Scissor Lift, Fall Protection, and Working at Heights (preferred).
  • Effective time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Active knowledge of safety guidelines in the industrial environment.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge and up-to-date familiarity with industrial tools.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Safety tickets (e.g., CSTS, WHMIS) are an asset.

Responsibilities
  • Comply with the company’s Health, Safety, and Environment policies in compliance with legal requirements, site safety plan, site rules, and arrangements.
  • Install mechanical equipment to design specifications and drawings.
  • Utilize knowledge/working background in all matters of site installation.
  • Take instruction from assigned Mechanical Supervisors for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
  • Install mechanical systems and their components to the customer requirements.
  • Attend toolbox talk, safety stand down, and other safety related meetings on site.
  • Read blueprints, layout, and prepare equipment for installation.
  • Engage in problem solving where appropriate regarding site activities.
  • Use measuring instruments to ensure parts conform to specifications on drawings.
  • Work under minimal supervision to achieve desirable results.
  • Ensure all finished components are free of burrs, shavings, and sharp edges.
  • Erect and install scaffolding, hoisting equipment, and rigging.
  • Signal crane operator to position steel units according to blueprints.
  • Align, weld/bolt steel units in place and assemble/erect prefabricated metal structures such as platforms, supports, metal stairways, railings, and floor grating.
  • Examine structures and equipment for deterioration, defects, or non-compliance with specifications.
  • Layout and prepare equipment for installation.
  • Install material handling (conveyor) systems.
