QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in good standing in Manitoba or eligible for immediate registration.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in structural engineering with a focus on structural steel and connection design.
  • Strong understanding of steel connection types (bolted, welded, moment, shear, etc.) and their applications in fabrication and erection.
  • Proficient with structural analysis software (e.g., RISA, STAAD, S-Frame) and hand calculations.
  • Familiar with CAD or 3D modeling software (Tekla, PowerFab, or AutoCAD) and how engineering designs are translated into shop drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and seal engineering documents and design reports.
  • Excellent communication skills – able to explain complex technical details to non-engineering personnel and collaborate effectively with the drafting department.
  • Experience working in a steel fabrication or detailing environment.
  • Previous experience conducting structural site inspections or reviews.
  • Familiarity with building envelope connections, pre-engineered structures, or industrial framing systems.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) standards is an asset.
  • Project management or team lead experience is a bonus.
Responsibilities
  • Perform and approve structural steel connection designs in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Review project drawings and collaborate with drafters/ detailers/ modelers to ensure clear, buildable, and structurally sound connection details.
  • Stamp and sign engineering drawings and calculations, ensuring accuracy, code compliance, and engineering best practices.
  • Communicate and collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams and clients to resolve design challenges efficiently.
  • Participate in design review meetings and assist in the coordination between engineering, fabrication, and erection/site teams.
  • Stay informed on updates to engineering codes, materials, and connection methodologies.
  • Support shop and field teams by responding to RFIs and providing clarifications as needed during fabrication and installation.
