START DATE: 01.04.2025 OR BY ARRANGEMENT

Are you interested in working with a dynamic research group dedicated to combating antimicrobialresistant bacteria? The department GEAR is looking for a student assistant from the University of Greifswald starting in April or by arrangement to join our team and support our PhD students and postdocs on various projects.

ABOUT US

In the Department GEAR, we investigate factors that contribute to the success of antimicrobialresistant bacteria, with a focus on Enterobacterales. We use geno- and phenotypic experiments, including biofilm formation assays, experimental (micro-)evolution as well as functional and phylogenetic genome analysis to better understand and combat successful pandemic pathogens. We collaborate with others to elucidate the occurrence and transmission of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria in humans, animals (including food products) and the environment under the One Health aspect. Our ultimate goal is to identify and validate innovative bacterial therapeutic targets to combat antimicrobial-resistant pathogens. We believe that only a holistic approach can counteract the threat of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria.

Responsibilities

As a student assistant, you will support our PhD students and postdocs in various projects. You should have experience with basic laboratory methods, including bacterial cultivation, DNA extraction, PCR, and agar/broth preparation. A certification as a technical assistant is preferred. You should be a team player who enjoys working in a young, motivated team and who can also work independently and in a structured manner.
