  CHAMINADE UNIVERSITY OF HONOLULU I. Position Information Title: Student Assistant – Social Media & Marketing Division/Department: School of Business and Communication  Status: Non-Exempt, Part time II. Position Summary The Student Assistant will support social media marketing, outreach, and event coverage efforts for the department. This position provides hands-on experience in content creation, digital marketing, and community engagement. The student will collaborate with the Outreach Coordinator to plan, create, and evaluate content that supports program visibility and engagement. III. Reports to: Direct Report to: Outreach Coordinator Indirect Report to: Dean/Program Leadership (as applicable for marketing and outreach alignment)   IV. Learning Outcomes  1. Develop professional communication and outreach skills through engagement with community partners 2. Gain hands-on experience in digital marketing, content creation, and social media strategy 3. Build confidence in public speaking, on-camera presence, and storytelling 4. Learn basic analytics and performance tracking to inform marketing decisions 5. Strengthen time management, organization, and project execution skills   V. Essential Duties and Responsibilities   SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING * Brainstorm and pitch content ideas (short-form video, stories, behind-the-scenes content)  * Appear on camera as a host, interviewer, or narrator for video content  * Assist with filming, including basic setup, lighting, and capturing b-roll and candid moments  * Draft captions, hashtags, and assist with posting schedules  * Support basic video editing and formatting (if applicable)  * Track engagement metrics (views, interactions) and suggest improvements  MARKETING OUTREACH * Assist with outreach to local businesses and community partners  * Support email communication and follow-up with external partners  * Participate in occasional in-person outreach activities, including networking and distribution of materials  EVENT SUPPORT & COVERAGE * Assist with event planning logistics, including vendor coordination and setup preparation  * Provide on-site event support and coordination VI. Education and Experience   Minimum * Current Chaminade University student in good academic standing * Interest in marketing, communications, or related field   Preferred * Experience with social media content creation * Basic video editing experience (CapCut, Canva, Adobe Express, iMovie, etc) * Student should maintain a current GPA of at least (2.5/3.0) VIII. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities  * Strong communication and interpersonal skills * Comfortable speaking on camera and presenting confidently * Understanding of social media trends, storytelling, and engagement strategies * Ability to generate ideas independently and follow through on tasks * Organized and able to meet deadlines consistently * Familiarity with Instagram, TikTok, and/or LinkedIn is a plus * Proficiency in MS Office or related tools * Attention to detail and commitment to work quality * High integrity and ethical standards IX. Physical Requirements Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand. X.
