  • Ideally the student will have an interest in Biological sciences, including study specifically in ecology and spatial analysis.
  • Applicants must be studying towards a degree in biological or environmental science and can accurately and diligently perform data support tasks, including checking, analysis, collation, digitisation, and updates.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS is preferred.
  • Full driver’s license desirable but not essential in this role.
  • We’re looking for a responsible and self-motivated individual who can carry out work accurately, competently, and diligently.
  • A careful working attitude and adherence to council document management systems are essential.
  • The primary role involves data entry and support work, focusing on biological and Green Wheel data systems.
Responsibilities
  • Fixed-term, full time position, ending early mid- March 2026.
  • Based in our Hamilton office.
  • Assisting with biodiversity data validation and making updates to the regional indigenous biodiversity dataset.
  • Updating the Kahikatea database to help forest fragment indicator monitoring project.
  • Updating and maintaining the biodiversity, threatened species, and Green wheel data within Waikato Regional Council systems.
  • Office based data entry and data analyses work.
  • We’re looking for someone who is responsible and self-motivated and who can carry out the work in an accurate, competent, and diligent manner for Biodiversity and Green Wheel data support including checking, analysis, collating, digitising and updating.
  • They will work alongside t he Geothermal & Air, Land Ecology & Contamination Science Team at Waikato Regional Council.
  • Over the summer the successful applicant will become familiar with Waikato Regional Council functions, threatened species and habitat data management and maintenance, understanding the significant ecological issues in Waikato region, and working alongside high performing scientists.
