Student Business Analyst/Land Negotiator
Ovintiv’s program is a comprehensive summer internship designed to provide a solid foundation of knowledge and experiential training while giving students the opportunity to apply what they are learning in school in a real-world setting. As an student you will spend the summer working closely with an experienced mentor and be assigned a project and various other responsibilities intended to provide you with learning opportunities while delivering meaningful contributions to Ovintiv.
Responsibilities
As a student Business Analyst on the Land Negotiation team at Ovintiv you will have the opportunity to interact with various internal teams and external partners, learn about North American land systems, build a land library of legal contracts and references, and research solutions to a variety of issues.
Land Negotiators work on cross-discipline teams where land, engineering, geology, marketing and accounting work together to build a strategic land base underlying large resource plays through land sales, acquisitions, lease purchases, and contractual arrangements. They often play a key role in acquisitions, divestitures, and joint venture relationship management and are typically involved in regulatory issues such as well spacing, well permitting and the legislative process.

Examples of past intern projects and responsibilities include:

  • Researching competitor ownership of surrounding leases.
  • Understand the implications of new government rules or court cases and communicate the impact on the organization.
  • Review contracts to determine partner obligations and associated compliance.
  • Analyze risk and uncertainty when evaluating proposals while utilizing economic analyses to prioritize work and aid in decision making.

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in Energy and Professional Land Management or equivalent program is preferred but not required.
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student through December 2026.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • CA: Must be available May 4 – August 20, 2026.

In accordance with applicable law, the following represents Ovintiv’s reasonable estimate of the hiring compensation range for this role.
Hiring Hourly Range: $24.38 - $33.75 CAD
Compensation may vary and will be determined by year in school.
