DICKINSON STATE UNIVERSITY (DSU) is a regional comprehensive institution within the North Dakota University System, whose primary role is to contribute to intellectual, social, economic, and cultural development, especially to Southwestern North Dakota. The University’s mission is to provide high quality, accessible programs; to promote excellence in teaching and learning; to support scholarly and creative activities; and to provide service relevant to the economy, health, and quality of life for the citizens of the State of North Dakota.
DSU is seeking to hire a Student Engagement Coordinator. This position plays a vital role in creating a dynamic and inclusive campus life through the planning and execution of student activities, oversight of intramural sports, and support of student organizations. The coordinator will also manage student-facing social media and assist with major campus events like Homecoming, Weekend of Welcome, and Family Weekend.
The ideal candidate has experience in student engagement, strong communication and organizational skills, and is excited to collaborate across campus to foster community and student well-being. Evening and weekend work is expected. This position includes optional live-on responsibilities and participation in the professional on-call rotation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in education, higher education, or related field
  • Experience in student programming, intramurals/recreation, student organizations, or residence life.
  • Knowledge of event planning, assessment, and risk management.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with social media, marketing tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES:

  • Master’s degree
  • Ability to live on campus in assigned housing, which will be provided along with the Basic Meal plan.
  • Valid driver’s license
Responsibilities
  • Student Events and Engagement
  • Serve as primary advisor to the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and Homecoming Committee.
  • Plan and assist with events such as Weekend of Welcome, 30 Days of Programming, Homecoming, Family Weekend, and monthly engagement programs.
  • Develop new traditions and innovative programming for both on-campus and online students.
  • Promote collaboration between student organizations for co-sponsored events.
  • Able to drive as needed to state, regional, and national events.
  • Collaborate with other departments and student groups to host culturally diverse and educational programs.
  • Integrate educational and awareness programming related to wellness, diversity, inclusion, and campus safety into event planning.
  • Incorporate assessment data and best practices for program development and evaluation.
  • Promote events using effective marketing strategies, including social media and campus communications.
  • Coordinate and/or provide evening and weekend coverage for events as needed.
  • Serve on university committees and participate in professional development and NDUS initiatives.
  • Support university recruitment, registration, and community outreach events.
  • Complete other duties, as assigned.
  • Intramural Sports Oversight
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive intramural sports program.
  • Coordinate scheduling, marketing, staffing, and logistics for leagues and tournaments.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise student referees and intramural staff.
  • Review, update, and enforce rules and regulations for each intramural sport, ensuring fair play and safety.
  • Ensure risk management procedures and equipment are maintained.
  • Collaborate with athletics to promote campus-wide participation in recreational sports.
  • Complete other duties, as assigned.
  • Social Media and Communications
  • Assist in managin 0the DSU Students social media accounts to promote events and engagement opportunities.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to raise awareness of campus activities among students.
  • Curate and create weekly digital content and measure engagement analytics.
  • Maintain and update the DSU events calendar in collaboration with University Relations and Facilities.
  • Submit events to the DSU Events Calendar.
  • Collaborate with the Office of University Relations on promotion.
  • Review club and organization information on the University website regularly for accuracy.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
  • Residence Life & On-Call
  • Serve as a member of the residence life professional team with optional live-on responsibilities.
  • Identify and support current student leaders or emerging student leaders.
  • Support crisis response, conflict resolution, and student development efforts.
  • Serve as a member of the Professional On-Call rotation within the Office of Campus Life.
  • Other duties as assigned.
