Job Description Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity We are looking for a Student Engagement Coordinator to join our passionate and collaborative team. In this role, you will design, deliver, and continuously improve a range of student development and engagement programmes that support transition, belonging, and success. Your portfolio will include initiatives across areas such as student leadership, volunteering, orientation, and reward and recognition. This is a highly varied and rewarding role where you will bring ideas to life — from planning and delivering programmes, to managing projects, engaging stakeholders, and evaluating impact. You’ll work closely with students, colleagues, and partners across the University to create meaningful experiences that enhance the overall student journey. Key responsibilities include: Designing, coordinating, and delivering student engagement programmes and initiatives Managing projects from planning through to evaluation, including timelines, budgets, and reporting Supporting student leadership, volunteering, and transition initiatives such as Orientation Building strong relationships with student groups, internal teams, and external partners Providing guidance and support to students, including pastoral care where needed Coordinating events, workshops, and training sessions Managing programme communications, systems, and logistics Using feedback and data to evaluate programmes and drive continuous improvement This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a vibrant student experience, where your work directly supports students to feel connected, confident, and set up for success. This is a fixed-term contract until the end of 2027 working 37.5 hours per week. The salary range for this role is from NZ $63,600 – $79,300 per annum depending on experience and qualifications. You bring a positive, collaborative approach and are confident managing multiple projects in a dynamic environment. You are equally comfortable working independently and as part of a team, and you take pride in delivering high-quality outcomes that make a difference. Ngā pūkenga motuhake | Important skills and experience A Bachelor’s degree or relevant tertiary qualification At least 2 years’ experience in student engagement, programme coordination, or a similar role Experience working with young people in a support or pastoral capacity Proven ability to design, deliver, and evaluate programmes or initiatives Strong project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences Experience working across a complex organisation and collaborating with multiple stakeholders Confidence using digital systems and tools Experience in a tertiary environment, working with student groups or clubs, or supporting events and large-scale programmes would be highly beneficial. An understanding of, or commitment to learning about, equity, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and working with diverse student communities is important for success in this role.
