STUDENT – FLEET SERVICES (CONTRACT)
The Halton Regional Police Service is currently seeking one (1) energetic, collaborative and innovative individual to join our Fleet Services department as a Summer Student from May to August 2025.

Responsibilities:
ABOUT THE ROLE – HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE SERVICE:
You will be working with a team of well-respected team members within the Fleet Unit who support front line officers in an operational capacity playing a critical role in keeping our first responders equipped and ready to serve. The Fleet Student will be reporting to the Manager of Fleet Services and will be required to support the department performing various ‘hands on’ functions. This role will be in place from May – August and appeals to a college or university student looking to develop themselves professionally using their mechanical, technical, electrical knowledge that would support equipment installation requirements and various fleet services related tasks.
WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
The Fleet Student will be providing hands on support to the unit including working on and in fleet vehicles, driving vehicles, installing equipment, maintenance related functions and assisting in trouble shooting technical issues, as well as other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE:
Education, Certifications and Qualifications: We are looking for a candidate who is enrolled in post-secondary education preferably electrical, millwright or mechanic trades, vehicle maintenance and/or related field. The candidate must be returning to their program in September 2025, and must have a valid Class G driver’s licence with a clean driving record.
Previous Experience, Knowledge and Skills: Our ideal candidate must possess strong integrity to maintain confidentiality and manage highly sensitive information. The candidate must have exceptional interpersonal skills, be organized due to various deadlines and possess attention to detail skills. The candidate must be able to work independently on tasks and take initiative with assigned projects. The ideal candidate must be able to be flexible in order to adjust to different tasks assigned and hours of work. The candidate should have some working experience in electrical repairs and/or installation, millwright, or mechanic trades and experience with automotive electrical applications, and able to use hand tools to perform installation related repairs and requirements. The candidate must have the physical capability to lift objects up to 50 lbs, as the position involves significant physical and labor-intensive work.
Note: The successful applicant will need to pass a background and driver’s licence check to the satisfaction of the Service which will include reference checks with previous employers, verification of educational achievements, and a criminal background screen. If you are selected as the successful candidate, you must participate in a job readiness assessment (i.e. assesses the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and/or climb ladder etc.). This assessment is conducted through an outside agency.
