Vacancy - Student Information Systems (SIS) Department Manager
Reports to: Executive Director of Technology
FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY

The Student Information System (SIS) Department Manager provides support and training for the end users of student information and demographic data; coordinates with various departments to maintain student data systems and data integrity; Manages SIS department staff, monitoring calendars, projects, timelines and time clock; Manages existing and develops new reports, queries, and/or scripts; and supports the data entry needs for multiple time sensitive reports to state and federal agencies requiring student data.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Identifies, diagnoses, and resolves problems for users of the Augusta County Public School District’s Student Information System (currently Infinite Campus)
  • Monitors, identifies, and prioritizes SIS questions submitted within the SIS help ticket system.
  • Provides one-on-one end-user SIS problem resolution over the phone, e-mail, or remotely as needed.
  • Creates SIS reference materials for dissemination to end-users including, but not limited to, Registrars, Secretaries, and Teachers.
  • Assists with maintaining SIS data integrity by running reports to identify potential data errors.
  • Assists with system maintenance by running regular system processes daily, weekly or monthly, as needed. Maintains and adheres to the schedule for these system responsibilities.
  • Performs basic SIS setup for schools before the start of the new school year. Assist administrative staff to facilitate the New Year Rollover and Year End Closeout.
  • Provides setup assistance for new features within the system including the testing of these features prior to adoption in the live environment.
  • Assists in the delivery of SIS training to new employees and existing employees including, but not limited to, professional development for large group, small group, and drop-in settings.
  • Tests newly created reports and posts to the appropriate place within the SIS for end-users.
  • Performs basic data queries and responds to K-12 data inquiries from staff.
  • Grants SIS access to end-users with the appropriate level of system security. Resets passwords as needed.
  • Stays current on state and federal student data reporting requirements for the purpose of ensuring accurate and compliant data submission.
  • Adheres to information security policies and regulations (FERPA, HIPAA, COPPA, etc.)
  • Maintains integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or district patrons.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two years experience supporting users on student information and data systems; extensive experience using T-SQL, Python, PowerShell, Google Workspace, and MS Excel.
  • Familiarity working with but not limited to;


    • FileMaker, Access, or other database software

    • Large scale datasets
    • Presentation software
    • Word processing software
    • Task management system (currently Asana)

    DESIRED SKILLS

    Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, related field. or at least 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with SIS systems or similar enterprise-level systems (e.g., Infinite Campus, PowerSchool.)
    • Strong technical skills in troubleshooting, and data analysis.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Proven ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a strong commitment to accuracy and quality.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
    • Project management experience.
    • Experience with data analysis and reporting tools.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from administrators, teachers, regulatory agencies, or members of the learning community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, teachers, and school board.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
