About the job

ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you a Canadian university student with research, AI, or data science skills? Looking for instructor experience while building research program management and teaching experience for your CV?

We are seeking proactive undergraduate and graduate students to serve as Instructor-Mentors. In this dual role, you will act as both a recruiter (bringing high school students to your campus) and an academic instructor (guiding them through a 4-month blended-learning data science and AI research project).

🔑 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Outreach & Cohort Recruitment: Proactively recruit a cohort of 8+ high school students from local high schools to join Scholar Internship pathway of the High School Big Data and AI Challenge.
  • Instruction & Mentorship: Lead 10 weekly sessions (2 hours each, held on weekends or after hours from October to January).
  • Curriculum Supervision: Oversee student progression through Cisco Networking Academy (Data Science Essentials with Python), open-data inquiry, and scientific writing.
  • Conference Preparation: Guide your student teams as they prepare research manuscripts, YouTube project reports, and 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) presentations for our national conferences (held at U of T, U of C, and Quebec venues).
  • Campus Logistics: Utilize your university club membership or affiliation to secure learning spaces/auditoriums on your campus for weekly sessions.

🌟 WHAT WE OFFER

  • $1,000 Paid Honorarium: Earn a $1,000 honorarium upon successful cohort recruitment (8+ participants) and full 10-week program delivery.
  • Scholarly Recognition: Mentors receive official recognition alongside student abstracts published in the peer-reviewed STEM Fellowship Journal.
  • CV & Application Booster: Gain verified teaching, project management, and leadership experience that sets your resume apart for graduate school, medical school, or industry applications.
  • Community Impact: Expand STEM access and serve as a role model for aspiring young researchers in your community.

🎯 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at a Canadian university.
  • Proven experience in Data Science, AI/Machine Learning, Statistics, or Scientific Research.
  • Affiliated with (or willing to join/register) a STEM Fellowship club on your campus (necessary for booking university classrooms).
  • Excellent communication, mentorship, and project management skills.

Location: Canadian University Campuses across Canada (Hybrid)

Program Period: October 2026 – January 2027 including student Recruitment & Onboarding: August – September 2026
