POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Superintendent – Water Distribution & Wastewater Collection, or designate, performs general duties and assists maintenance crews. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists maintenance crews with minor work tasks. Performs maintenance on fire hydrants (includes inspections, painting, grass-cutting, etc) Assists with minor Inspection duties Assists with database creations and upkeep Assists with clerical tasks as necessary QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience: Must be a secondary school graduate and enrolled in an engineering, environmental or science program at a college or university Skills & Abilities: Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class G licence, or equivalent Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English Must be highly motivated and work well in a team environment Must be able to work with minimal supervision Must possess superior customer service skills Proficient in the use of computers and current related software (Word, Excel, etc.) Assets: Previous sewer and water experience is an asset Current Operator-in-Training Certificate from the Ministry of the Environment is an asset CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation May be required to provide a successful driver’s abstract General Information: As an equal opportunity employer, the City of Thunder Bay encourages applications from Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, members of visible minority groups and women.
