Description Job Overview The Student Navigator supports the AVANCE to College program, which is designed to allow participants to grow their parenting skills, participate in leadership and college/career readiness lessons while exposing them to a college environment. The Student Navigator will support student parents throughout the program and conduct case management to ensure access to resources and removal of potential barriers to attending classes, such as securing childcare, as needed. The Student Navigator will also present the toy making class, conduct home visits, and provide college/ career advising and guidance Job Responsibilities Program Fidelity: Lead toy-making lessons and prepare, provide and transport all necessary materials and supplies to deliver the classes. Collaborate with the AVANCE to College instructor(s) to develop college/career readiness hour activities and resources. Conduct home visits to provide college/career advising and guidance, observe parents engaging with their child at home using the AVANCE toys and complete the home visit observation form. Conduct case management for AVANCE to College participants. Coordinate and conduct recruitment activities in partnership with institutions of higher education implementing the AVANCE to College program. Stakeholder Collaboration: Participate in scheduled check-ins with Director of AVANCE to College. Meet regularly with the AVANCE to College instructor(s) to support program implementation and ensure participants have access to college and community resources and services. Data Management and Reporting: Regularly monitor AVANCE to College participant lesson completion and attendance. Maintain case management files for each participant, documenting progress towards established goals, resolving family needs and providing appropriate referrals as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. AVANCE Core Competencies Execution & Accountability Problem Solving & Decision-Making Communication & Influence Collaboration & Teamwork Stakeholder Focus Adaptability & Continuous Learning Requirements Education Required: Associate Degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology or a related field Preferred: Bachelor's degree in education, social work, Psychology or a related field Graduate of AVANCE to College Program or AVANCE Parent-Child Education Program Work Experience Required: Social work, volunteer or paid experience with community groups, church or schools. Experience teaching and/or working with adult learners. Strong literacy and effective communication skills. Preferred: 2-3 years of experience with teaching/working with adult learners Additional Skills Must be able to speak and read well in both Spanish and English. Verbal and writing skills to maintain records. Resourceful; organized; budgeting and purchasing skills. Travel Ability to travel to various sites: Dependable transportation is required daily with a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record (subject to annual MVR (Motor Vehicle Report) check and policy), current auto liability insurance and be bondable by AVANCE, Inc. Travel required up to 40% of the time for work-related site visits, meetings, and functions. Working Conditions Work is generally performed in an office environment. Noise level in the work environment is moderate to occasionally loud (examples: business office with computers and printers, light to moderate traffic, human voices). Standard office equipment generally used includes: Telephone Personal Computer (monitor, keyboard, and mouse) or Tablet Printer/Photocopy Machine Calculator May be required to operate a motor vehicle during the course of duties. Mental and Physical Demands Maintain emotional control under stress; work with interruptions and deadlines; walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; occasional: lifting/carrying, pulling/pushing 10-30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Environmental Factors Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.). Occasional expose to weather related conditions when working in outside environment/neighborhoods and events. Responsibilities
