Under the direction of the RN, the SNAP directly assists with providing care to meet patient hygiene needs, takes and records vital signs and weights, assists with transfers, ambulation and transportation, assists with food trays/nourishments, feeds patients and records intake & output, answers call lights and telephone, performs clerical tasks, assists with organizing supplies, applies/uses specified patient care equipment, and maintains a safe environment while performing care. This position is offered to nursing students actively enrolled in a nursing program who have completed one year of clinicals. SNAPs are per diem and must be able to work a minimum of 24 hours per month, various shifts, including one weekend a month. DEPARTMENT SCOPE OF SERVICE: The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is an acuity adjustable unit providing care to a diverse patient population requiring medical-surgical and telemetry levels of care, as well as patients requiring a higher level of care, including, but not limited to, those on BiPap, Insulin drips, or cardiac drips. The PCU is a 24/7/365 service with 23 beds, which includes 5 monitored beds and 7 portable telemetry units. Medical patients are admitted by the 24/7 Hospitalist service, and surgical patients are admitted by the surgeon. PCU patients are reviewed daily by an interdisciplinary team at MDR rounds. (Multidisciplinary Rounds). Care is reviewed and discharge planning is done. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the RN, the SNAP directly assists with providing care to meet patient hygiene needs, takes and records vital signs and weights, assists with transfers, ambulation and transportation, assists with food trays/nourishments, feeds patients and records intake & output, answers call lights and telephone, performs clerical tasks, assists with organizing supplies, applies/uses specified patient care equipment, and maintains a safe environment while performing care. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School Education or equivalency required. Actively enrolled in an accredited nursing program. Experience: Has successfully completed at least one year of clinical rotation. Licensure/Certifications: Current Healthcare provider CPR certification/BLS required. OSHA CATEGORY: OSHA Category I - Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues require use of techniques of Universal Precautions as evidenced with blood borne pathogens standards.
