UAF University Relations
The Student Photographer position at UAF University Relations assists the Chief Photographer in covering a wide range of photography assignments, from in-studio and on-location portraits to documentary coverage of events, setting up and staging photo scenarios for specific usages, gathering a wide variety of “Campus Life” images, some sports photography and the occasional field research assignment. The Student Photographer is responsible for editing and processing the photos, following the appropriate procedures to ensure proper metadata entry, model release collection, photo shoot archiving and processed image sharing. The Student Photographer will have the opportunity to grow and expand their portfolio under the mentorship and direction of the Chief Photographer, and will also have the opportunity to assist in social media and marketing efforts. Student Photographer must be available to work occasional evening and weekend duties with advance notice.
To thrive in this role, candidates should ideally have intermediate-level photography skills, including the use of both ambient and artificial lighting, with journalism experience as a plus. They should be comfortable interacting and building rapport with a wide range of subjects in diverse scenarios and conditions. Proficiency in processing photos using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, along with the ability to archive and share photo catalogs via asset management platforms such as Photoshelter and Google Drive, is preferred. Experience in digital photography is required, while journalism experience is preferred, and marketing or social media skills are considered a plus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any Photography and/or Journalism classes, and school newspaper and/or yearbook experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must:
a. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or
b. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and
c. Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee.
d. Students enrolled in nontraditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer.
e. An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.
