  • Educational qualification at Level 3 or above
  • Minimum Level 2 Maths & English qualifications

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Working with young people and/or adults in both 1:1 and group situations
  • Working collaboratively with students and colleagues to review student progress, supporting achievement of learning and personal goals
  • Providing support for students’ numeracy, literacy and wider employability skills
  • An understanding of the issues and barriers that relate to learners and thus impact their education and personal wellbeing
  • Ability to set, monitor and review individual SMART targets with students
  • An organised approach to work, with effective time management and strong administrative skills
  • Demonstrate a friendly, approachable, empathetic and supportive demeanour with students and colleagues, and when working with all external stakeholders

DESIRABLE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Working within the Post-16 educational setting, or within schools
  • Providing academic and/or employability skill development for learners
  • Providing social, volunteering and community-based opportunities for learners

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

To support the ongoing pastoral care, personal development and academic excellence in Sunderland Sixth Form, we are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Student Progress & Development Tutor, who is passionate about supporting students to develop the essential skills for progression to higher education and the workplace.
The post holder will be a key member of a collaborative team that focusses on providing an excellent learner experience. You will be committed to working closely with curriculum and pastoral staff to support the development and wellbeing of students, helping them improve their learning skills and achieve their personal targets. The successful applicant will support a caseload of students, who predominantly study A-Levels. You will meet regularly with Sixth Form students to encourage, motivate and support them to maximise their potential, achieve their learning and personal development goals, and progress to further/higher education, training or employment.
In addition to monitoring students’ attendance and punctuality, you will support students to develop strategies to maximise the product of their effective study skills, develop positive behaviours and attitudes, and encourage them to take part in volunteering, mentoring and leadership activities.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Timely interventions which support students to improve the attendance, behaviour, success, and progression.
  • Tracking, monitoring and recording the progress of students within their caseload via the eILP (ProMonitor).
  • Ensuring that ‘At Risk’ students who have gaps in their engagement and achievement, receive timely and effective support.
  • Support students to explore their future progression opportunities, including UCAS applications, references and HE institutions.
  • Support the development of personal skills, attitudes and behaviours to maximise work readiness and employability e.g. literacy, numeracy, CV writing, interview techniques, communication skills, job applications.
