JOB SUMMARY:

A Student Support Specialist for grades 5-6; 7-8; and 9-12 plays a crucial role in providing academic, emotional, and behavioral support to students within the specified grade range: Highlands Middle School (5th & 6th); Crossroads Middle School (7th & 8th); and Northview High School (9th-12th). The Student Support Specialist’s primary objective will be to create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student success and well-being focused on belonging, equity and access. The Student Support Specialist will collaborate closely with teachers, parents, and other school staff to identify and address individual student needs, helping them overcome challenges and maximize their full potential.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field
  • Experience: Previous experience working with students in an educational setting, preferably in grades 5-12.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with academic, emotional, and behavioral challenges faced by students in grades 5-12.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking abilities to assess student needs, develop intervention plans, and adapt strategies as necessary.
  • Collaboration: Proven ability to collaborate and work effectively as part of a team, including collaborating with teachers, and parents. Working with external professionals is preferred.
  • Organization and Documentation: Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records, track student progress, and document interventions and outcomes.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders, including students, parents, and school staff.
  • Confidentiality: Understanding of and commitment to maintaining student confidentiality and adhering to ethical guidelines in the field of education.
  • Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing needs and situations, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively in a dynamic educational environment.

Responsibilities
  • Manage Student Responsibility Center (SRC) and/or Responsible Thinking Classroom (RTC)
  • Provide building tours to new families
  • Provide individual and group support to students (in grades 5th-6th; 7th-8th; or 9th-12th) addressing academic, emotional, and behavioral concerns.
  • Provide mediation and restorative justice practices/opportunities for students and students/staff.
  • Support Building-level Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) practices, including supporting attendance and absenteeism.
  • Facilitate student support through academic and/or social-emotional goal-
  • Facilitate workshops and group sessions on topics such as bullying prevention, restorative circles, stress management, conflict resolution, and study strategies.
  • Monitor student progress and absenteeism, track data, and maintain accurate records of interventions, services provided, and outcomes achieved.
  • Participate in professional development activities to stay updated on best practices in student support and intervention strategies.
