ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Participate in training regarding requirements of Section 504.
  • Continually update the district’s policies and procedures regarding Section 504.
  • Training of building principals and other necessary staff regarding these changes in policies and procedures.
  • Create and monitor a district wide system for correct documentation of students that have received suspensions and other discipline.
  • Work closely with building MTSS teams to identify when behavior should constitute a special education referral.
  • Work with IEP and 504 teams to create FAPE plans when students are suspended and monitor/adjust when necessary if plans are not effective.
  • Training for staff on when behavior impacts students receipt of FAPE and monitor implementation.
  • Assist with monitoring of timelines related to discipline.
  • Work collaboratively with principals/deans/social workers on discipline policies and procedures.
  • Help administrators come up with appropriate alternatives to suspensions

QUALIFICATIONS:



    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, School Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in education, special education, or a related field.
    • Experience with Section 504 and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requirements.
    • Experience in a leadership or training role within an educational setting is highly desirable.
    -

    Special Education certification or social work license, preferred.

    • Understanding of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and its implementation in schools.

    Description: The Student Services Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting positive student behavior and ensuring compliance with Section 504 and other relevant regulations within Eastpointe Community Schools. This position involves continuous policy updates, staff training, and collaboration with various teams to support student behavior and special education needs. The coordinator will create and monitor documentation systems for suspensions and disciplinary actions, ensuring effective interventions and adherence to Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) requirements. This position reports to the Director of Student Support Services.
