POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Centre (HDS) is entering a time of great opportunity and transformation. We are looking for exceptional individuals to be part of our extraordinary team and future that includes a focus on leveraging capital planning and redevelopment to transform how we plan and deliver patient care at Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Centre and across the Niagara region.
Reporting to the Director, Capital Planning & Redevelopment, the Strategic Initiatives Associate student will be an integral part of the project team, supporting the development and delivery of the Functional Program, a foundational planning document that defines the operational requirements of the future hospital building – detailing clinical and non-clinical programs and services, staffing models, equipment needs, space requirements, and departmental relationships and adjacencies. As a member of the core project team, this role bridges operational planning and facility design, ensuring that the hospital’s physical infrastructure supports its strategic vision, enhances patient care, and meets Ministry of Health capital planning requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

o Currently enrolled in post-graduate healthcare leadership, Masters in Health Science Administration or equivalent.
o 4 month paid student practicum placement.
o 4 - 8 years demonstrated experience within healthcare administration or equivalent work experience.
o Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizations skills.
o Experience organizing/facilitating meetings.
o Able to effectively manage multiple activities simultaneously, meeting deadlines and managing change is essential.
o Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
o Must be able to work in a fast-past environment, prioritize activities and be detail oriented.
o Flexible, self-directed, ability to work independently and as a team player.
o Excellent work performance and attendance record is essential.
o Understanding of internal and external policies and guidelines (e.g. Broader Public Sector Procurement Directive, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, hospital’s IPAC requirements etc.)
o Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

o Support the Director with gathering and developing required documentation for Ministry of Health Capital Investment Branch planning submissions.
o Working closely with architects, engineers, and health planners.
o Coordinate input from all clinical and operational departments to ensure the plan reflects current workflows and anticipates future healthcare delivery needs.
o Develop schedule for user engagement.
o Coordinate/liaise with Project team, suppliers, and vendors as required.
o Planning and executing stakeholder and community engagement.
o Coordinate and develop Committee documents and liaise with HDS departments.
o Prepare high-level briefings and presentations for senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
o Coordinate project initiatives for new build with Communications.
o Other duties as assigned.
