OPPORTUNITY

MacEwan University is seeking a Student Success Assistant for a casual opportunity with our Student Life department working up to 15 hours per week. You will play a crucial role in supporting the Student Success Navigators in their efforts to enhance student retention and success at the University. This position is designed for current undergraduate students who are passionate about helping their peers, particularly first-year students, navigate the challenges of university life. In this role, you will assist in various tasks that contribute to the overall mission of the Student Success Navigator, ensuring that students receive the support they need to thrive academically and personally.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring and reviewing requests from students to identify and refer them to relevant resources to address their unique needs;
  • Supporting the Student Success Navigator in meeting with students individually, either in pre-scheduled appointments or on a drop-in basis, to discuss academic and non-academic challenges;
  • Providing basic drop-in support for students, addressing immediate concerns and directing them to appropriate resources;
  • Assisting with front desk operations, supporting student check-ins for scheduled appointments and drop-in services;
  • Assisting students in making appointments with the Student Success Navigator or other relevant services;
  • Refilling resources such as brochures, flyers, and other informational materials;
  • Collaborating with the Student Success Navigator to develop templates, resources, training materials, and supporting reference materials for student groups;
  • Maintaining and updating content on the Student Success Navigators and Study Skills web pages and creating information cards for promotional booths;
  • Creating resources using Canva to enhance student engagement and support;
  • Supporting the planning and execution of orientation and transition presentations, workshops, seminars, and other student engagement and retention-related events;
  • Helping to organize and facilitate student skill sessions and other activities aimed at enhancing student success;
  • Assisting with promotional booths, engaging with students and providing information about available services;
  • Helping manage and create social media posts to promote student success initiatives and events;
  • Documenting and maintaining accurate student records and information in databases and spreadsheets, ensuring adherence to FOIP and University policies and procedures; and
  • Conducting follow-ups with students to ensure they feel supported and gather insights for improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student at MacEwan University, with a minimum of 18 credits completed in your program of study.
  • Must be in good academic standing with a minimum 2.70 GPA.
  • A strong interest in supporting first-year students and enhancing their university experience.
  • Previous experience in a peer support or leadership role would be considered an asset.
  • A variety of experiences on your Student Experience Record would be considered an asset.
