STUDENT SUCCESS LIBRARIAN
The Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA) is seeking a creative and collaborative Student Success Librarian to lead our instruction and outreach efforts in a vibrant academic and artistic community. This role is perfect for someone who wants to champion information literacy, foster student success, and connect with a diverse student body—including first-year, international, first-generation, and traditionally underserved students.
Reporting to the Library Director, the Student Success Librarian plays a key role in shaping and promoting the library’s instructional programs. You’ll serve as the primary contact for library instruction and outreach services, collaborate with faculty and academic support staff to embed information literacy into the curriculum, and develop engaging learning experiences that support both in-person and asynchronous instruction. Your work will include developing research guides, tutorials, instructional videos, and assessments that help students grow as critical thinkers and effective researchers.
You’ll also take a hands-on role in supporting students directly—through one-on-one consultations, onboarding programs, and orientation activities. Additionally, you’ll supervise our Access and Circulation Library Assistant and a team of student workers, while also managing the library’s social media presence to help promote resources and services in fresh and engaging ways. Participation in reference services, assessment initiatives, library planning, and campus committees will round out your responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will hold a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program and bring at least one year of professional experience, preferably in an academic or art library setting. They should have a solid foundation in information literacy instruction and a working knowledge of ACRL’s Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education. Strong communication, teaching, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to create engaging learning materials and manage multiple projects effectively. Supervisory experience and comfort with training and mentoring students or staff are highly valued, as is a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in library services. Experience with integrated library systems, electronic resources, social media management, and student engagement programming is a plus. A background in art or art history and familiarity with consortia library environments are also desirable.
CIA is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and encourages candidates of all backgrounds to apply, even if they do not meet 100% of the listed qualifications. If you are passionate about student learning and engagement and helping others thrive through information literacy, we invite you to apply and be part of an institution that values creativity, innovation, and collaboration.
